Before you begin
To set up Outlook to receive your e-mail,
you will need the following information:
Your e-mail address, as provided by NexLAN
Your case-sensitive password
Incoming/Outgoing Mail Server information.
To find your server information, click
<here> for NexLAN's Outlook
Configuration Utility.
Setup Instructions
1) Open Outlook. From the menu bar at the top, choose Tools > Accounts.
2) In the E-mail Accounts window that appears, choose “Add
a new e-mail account” and click Next. (See below)
3) On the next window, choose POP3 as your server type and click Next.
4) Using the information from
NexLAN's Outlook Configuration Utility, complete the
Internet E-mail Settings (POP3) page. Most of the problems with retrieving e-mail are the
result of errors on this page.
After you enter your name and e-mail address, Outlook Express will automatically fill in the User Name as the characters before the “@”, as listed in your e-mail
address. You must enter your entire e-mail address in the User Name box under Logon Information.
Enter your case-sensitive password in the Password field. Click the
checkbox to have Outlook “Remember password” and do not check the box for “Log on using Secure Password Authentication”.
Complete the fields under Server Information, including Incoming and
Outgoing mail servers, from the information provided by the web. (See above)
5) When you are sure that all information is correct, click “Test
Account Settings”.
If the test is successful, you will receive a confirmation message.
(See below) Click Close to continue.
If you receive an error, return to setup step 4 and verify that all information is
entered correctly. After checking for spelling errors and re-entering your password, perform the Account Settings test again.
6) After a successful test, click Next on the E-mail accounts window and you will
receive a confirmation message. Click Finish.
7
) Ask a coworker to send you
a test e-mail at your new account. Wait a minute or two and click Send/Receive. To confirm that your account is working, send a reply message to the test and
confirm that your coworker receives it.
Troubleshooting
1) Most issues are the result of misspelled or incorrect account and
server information. To troubleshoot your setup, begin by accessing your account through the instructions provided in setup step two. Instead of choosing “Add a new
e-mail account,” as in setup step three, choose “view or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next.
Highlight your account (See below) and click “Change” on the right side
of the window.
2) Confirm that all information displayed is spelled correctly and that
your Account name is your full e-mail address.
3) If a pop-up message prompts you for your password each time you
logon or click send/receive, either your password has not been saved or your saved password is incorrect. Retype your password and be sure that the “Remember
password” option is checked.
4) Exit Outlook and re-open the program. Attempt to send and receive
another set of test messages with a coworker. If the test correspondence is still unsuccessful, contact us for assistance.
