Before you begin

To set up Outlook Express to receive your e-mail, you will need the following information:

  • Your e-mail address, as provided by NexLAN
  • Your case-sensitive password
  • Incoming/Outgoing Mail Server information.

To find your server information, click <here> for NexLAN's Outlook Configuration Utility.

Setup Instructions

1) Open Outlook Express.  From the menu bar at the top, choose Tools > Accounts.

2) In the Internet Accounts window that appears, choose the Mail tab.  On the right, choose Add > Mail. (See below)

3) On the next window, enter your name and click Next.  Enter your entire e-mail address as provided by NexLAN in the next window and click Next.

4) Using the information from NexLAN's Outlook Configuration Utility, provide the E-mail Server NamesChoose POP3 from the drop-down box for the incoming mail server type and enter the server names in the boxes provided.  Click Next.

5) Internet Mail Logon: Most of the problems with retrieving e-mail are the result of errors on this page.

Outlook Express will automatically fill in the Account name as the characters before the “@”, as listed in your e-mail address.  You must enter your entire e-mail address in the Account name box.

Enter your case-sensitive password in the Password field.  Click the checkbox for “Remember password” and do not check the box for “Log on using Secure Password Authentication”.

When you are sure that all information is correct (See below), click Next

6) A confirmation window will appear, informing you that setup is complete.  Click Finish to continue.  You will see a listing of all accounts in this installation of Outlook Express, as in the picture below.  Click Close.

7) Ask a coworker to send you a test e-mail at your new account.  Wait a minute or two and click Send/Receive.  To confirm that your account is working, send a reply message to the test and confirm that your coworker receives it.

Troubleshooting

1) Most issues are the result of misspelled or incorrect account and server information.  To troubleshoot your setup, begin by accessing your account through the instructions provided in setup step two.  Choose the mail tab as in setup step three, but instead of clicking Add > Mail, highlight your account and click Properties.

2) Confirm that all information displayed is spelled correctly and that your Account name is your full e-mail address.  The Servers tab should be identical to the page displayed from the Outlook Configuration Utility.

3) If a pop-up message prompts you for your password each time you logon or click send/receive, either your password has not been saved or your saved password is incorrect.  Retype your case-sensitive password in the Server settings tab and be sure that the “Remember password” option is checked.

4) Exit Outlook Express and re-open the program.  Attempt to send and receive another set of test messages with a coworker.  If the test correspondence is still unsuccessful, contact us for assistance.
