E-Mail and Bandwidth Upgrades Thursday, 13 March 2008

Dear ISP Clients:

This Thursday evening, beginning at 7pm CDT, we will be upgrading both our upstream bandwidth and e-mail server software.

As Danville's sole Business-Only Internet Service Provider, we keep a very close eye on the bandwidth of our aggregate upstream to ensure you're seeing the business class performance you expect.  Our monitoring shows that we've been above our typical 50% utilization a few times in the past few weeks, which is our "flag" to add bandwidth.  Thus, we'll be increasing our upstream bandwidth on Thursday evening at 7:00pm - of course at no additional charge to you!  Internet access downtime is expected to be well under an hour, with full service returned at 8:00pm.

Immediately afterwards, we'll be upgrading the mail server software which hosts our clients e-mail services to the latest version of Merak IceWarp MailServer (http://merkamailserver.com).  This is the same mail server software you've enjoyed for the past few years with us, so the changes won't be major.  This new version allows for better Challenge Response filtering.  Currently after three days someone from NexLAN manually goes out and deletes the messages in the Challenge Response queue.  After the upgrade, the Challenge Response queue will delete on its own after three days.  For desktop clients, such as Outlook or Outlook Express, the changes will be invisible.  When accessing via webmail, at http://webmail.nexlan.net, the differences are minor.

We plan to start the e-mail upgrade at 8:00pm, with the outage lasting less than 30 minutes.  During this small window you will not be able to receive new incoming messages or access webmail, but there will be no loss of incoming mail as all e-mail being sent to you will all be delivered once the upgrade is complete.

Neither of these upgrades require any configuration changes on your end for any routers, firewalls, or e-mail client/access methods, but if you have any questions regarding these upgrades, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Regards,
