E-mail Upgrade 6/13/07 at 7:00 pm

Dear ISP Clients:

We will be upgrading our e-mail server software this Wednesday, June 13, at 7:00 pm CDT.  Operational downtime for e-mail, both desktop clients such as Outlook or Outlook Express and webmail, is expected to be down about 30 minutes around 8pm.

During this small window you will not be able to receive new incoming messages or access webmail, but there will be no loss of incoming mail during this time as they will all be delivered once the upgrade is complete.

The upgrade is only a "build update", which is less serious than a version upgrade, so our confidence is high - but of course we'll be making multiple backups beforehand.

Also, with the summer upon us and vacations coming up, be sure to check out our procedures for setting up an e-mail auto-responder if you use NexLAN's e-mail servers as your primary server.

Regards,

Kevin E. Stroud

Setting Your E-mail Responder

You probably know that if you are headed out of the office for an extended period of time and unable to access your email, you can set a "responder" to manage your Inbox and automatically respond to incoming messages.

By adjusting a few settings, you can notify senders that you won't be answering your email immediately.

To access the responder:

  • Login to NexLAN webmail at http://webmail.nexlan.net.

  • Choose "Settings" from the top navigation bar, then choose "Auto Responder" at the left.

  • On the page that appears, type the message to be sent in the text box at the top.

Monitor Your Pending Challenge Responses

Did you know that you can monitor your pending Challenge Responses and immediately approve or deny them?

If your domain has opted in to our Challenge Response program, simply log into your webmail at http://webmail.nexlan.net and click the Settings button in the top toolbar, then choose Challenge Response.

You'll see a queue of pending challenge responses for your e-mail address.  If you see an address that is clearly spam and not a legitimate sender, you can instantly reject their pending challenge response and add them to your blacklist.

If you see a valid sender in your queue who hasn't yet clicked the challenge response link, you can save them the trouble and mark their pending response as accepted.  The associated message will then be delivered to your Inbox.

If your domain still isn't enjoying the benefits of using the Challenge Response system, email us at nexlan@nexlan.com to opt in to keep more spam out of your Inbox
